Let’s get all knotted up as we explore the art of Macrame! This 24” long plant hanger is the perfect project to learn how to knot. Even if you’ve never tried this before I’m confident you will catch on very quickly. Once you learn just a few of the basic knots you can use them to create a variety of patterns and projects.
We’ll be using a natural colored cotton macrame cord that’s very durable and easy to knot. I’ll have a variety of colored beads for you to choose from to make your plant hanger uniquely yours.
The small white ceramic bowl, approximately 3 inches by 4 inches, is also included in the project and is great for small succulents or a vase for short stemmed flowers. I have a tiny garden of them at my kitchen window. If you have a favorite pot of the same size feel free to bring it along and we’ll be sure to size your plant hanger for it.
Just a little history…
Macrame is the art of knotting cord or string into decorative patterns. As early as the 13th century Arabic weavers were using this knotting technique to finish off the edges of their woven textiles. Later, sailors used macrame to produce both useful and decorative items on their long journeys and spread the craft worldwide. Today macrame is most popularly used for decorative items, jewelry and clothing accessories.
